My Virtual Tutor: Reading 1st Grade to 2nd Grade

I was so excited to get this game, but it fell short of my expectations. It does not work on the skills of a beginning reader. I was hoping it would work on sight words and helping my child sound out words, but it has an expectation that you already know how to read. It has very few games and once they complete them, they are done. My son has almost conquered the entire game and he just got the game yesterday. I would not recommend this to anyone. I feel like I wasted my money.

My daughter who just turned 7 said, “It’s very fun and it’s easy.”

I say they should make it more challenging.

My granddaughter, age 6.5, really likes this game. She is a master of math blaster DVD game and has been playing Mario Bros on the Nintendo for the past year. She started playing this game about 1 month ago and it has replaced Mario. She loves to read aloud and hear herself read with the record function. She has been able to navigate the game all by herself. Honestly, I feel less guilty about video game playing not that this game is a favorite. She mostly plays in the car. I am thinking of buying the Pre-K level for my grandson.

I bought this for my 1rst grade son, and he had a lot of fun with the quizzes. However, you can pass the quizzes by just guessing randomly. And there are only 4 books to read. The only thing that seems educational is the phonics game, and he’s not interested in that. He finished everything in one day and doesn’t seem to have learned anything.

However, I e-mailed the company with my complaints, and they were able to resolve the problems. I traded it in for a copy for my daughter, who’s a much better fit for the game.

I bought this to help my kids improve their reading and to enjoy reading a little more (since they love their DS games). My kids both like this game (son is 8 and daughter will be 10 soon). It has different levels and you can save your progress so you continue each time you play .. moving to harder reading levels.
